Fibre & Digital Voice

Digital Voice or V.I.O.P is rapidly becoming the norm. With the old copper network being phased out by 2027. Your traditional phones will only work in the phone port on the rear of the hub / router. Your old fashioned sockets are effectively disconnected.
However you can -
  • Use your old phones by plugging into the socket on the back of the router (I can reconnect this to other sockets around the house that may already exist)
  • Use Digital Voice . The actual Digital Voice phones may be provided free from BT but you will have to pay for the "line" rental. Most people are shifting to internet only using there mobile only for calls. A good old fashioned phone line is now seen as a bit of an extra.
On the BT hub its the green socket on the back.

All routers / hubs are different some require a small breakout cable (shown in black) to convert from Tel1 to regular BT plug.

Fibre to Ethernet

This device terminates the fibre and converts it to an Ethernet port which is then connected to the router. No more phone lines :-/
I can extend the Ethernet cable to your routers preferred location.

The box is just a place to join the incoming fibre to the outgoing fibre. The clever bit is inside the house shown.

The analogue telephone will be fed from TEL1 (and Tel2 if you have 2nd line). The battery backup (Right) is designed to kick in if there is a power outage (would be a problem if you couldn't make 999 calls in an emergency!).
Tel 1 will effectively be your test socket.
